Comparative study on mental health policy in asian cities

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to provide a comparative information for developing Seoul mental health services through analysing mental health policy, systems and programs of several Asian cities.

Methods: We did comprehensive literature review concerning mental health Act, policies, reports, statistics and white papers of Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Results: We categorized five mental health domains that is serious mental illness, children and youth mental health, depression and anxiety, suicide prevention and alcohol problem. While city of Seoul and Tokyo covered all the domains of mental health, Hong Kong focused more onto the domains of serious mental illness and alcohol problem, and Singapore had a tendency to focus on the children and youth mental health, serious mental illness and depression and anxiety.

Conclusion: Deinstitutionalization was common important political issue in all the Asian cities. Building an integrated service system for child and adolescent mental health and high prevalence mental disorder such as depression, anxiety was important political issue in Asian cities.
